Good To Know

One day, kitten rescuer Hannah Shaw received a distressing call from an animal control officer about a kitten found abandoned in an empty tissue box, perilously close to death. Swiftly, Hannah went to rescue the kitten, determined to offer her a nurturing foster home. When she met the kitten, the severity of her condition was heartbreakingly clear. The tiny baby, infested with fleas that swarmed her delicate face, was in dire straits. Hannah brought her home and named her Hank. Hannah began the arduous process of nursing her back to health. Hank was not only battling a flea infestation but soon developed a severe eye infection despite her eyes still being closed.

Hannah carefully treated Hank’s infection, and soon, the little kitten opened her eyes for the first time. However, a trip to New York for a workshop posed a new challenge—Hannah couldn’t leave Hank behind. So, the little Ginger kitten accompanied Hannah to New York, sleeping peacefully as her foster mom delivered a speech. It was there that a shelter employee half-jokingly suggested Hannah take three more kittens from their shelter. Inspired, Hannah thought to adopt one of these kittens alongside Hank to encourage her playful nature.

Tragically, just as the new kitten, named Kodiak, was settling in, Hank began to exhibit alarming symptoms. Fearing the worst, Hannah tested Hank for panleukopenia, a potentially fatal virus that attacks the digestive system and is highly contagious. The results confirmed her fears, forcing her to isolate Hank from Kodiak to prevent the spread.

Determined to save her, Hannah devoted herself to Hank’s care, ensuring she stayed hydrated and closely monitoring her symptoms. Miraculously, Hank began to show signs of recovery. Meanwhile, Kodiak was adopted but was soon returned due to compatibility issues.

Hannah’s initial frustration turned to relief as this twist of fate meant Hank and Kodiak could be together again. The reunion seemed to revitalize both kittens, strengthening their bond. Fate smiled on them once more when a woman named Fawnia decided to adopt both, ensuring they would not be separated.

As Hank and Kodiak left with Fawnia, Hannah felt a mix of joy and sorrow, proud yet wistful as she watched her little survivors embark on their new lives. Thanks to her dedication and love, Hank and Kodiak now thrive in a home filled with affection and playfulness, a testament to the resilience of the tiniest hearts.
