With the intense heat of this summer, many of us are searching for ways to stay cool. While governments and organizations often provide cooling shelters for people, animals frequently have no such refuge. Fortunately, one kind shopkeeper decided to offer shelter to a stray cat in need.
The cat was desperately trying to enter Rayan Algamadi’s electronics store in Saudi Arabia. According to a local cat rescuer, stray cats are a common sight in the country. “The situation with cats in Saudi is very bad,” Lauren Braithwaite told The Cat Site. “You cannot go down a single street without seeing stray cats around. There are no animal shelters.”
Algamadi captured a video of the cat standing on its hind legs, meowing persistently at the glass door of his shop. As he approached, the cat’s meows grew louder, and it began pawing at the door, clearly pleading to be let in. Algamadi finally opened the door for the cat.
“Welcome, welcome,” Algamadi said in the video, as reported by The Dodo. “She wants to get in. Come on. Welcome, welcome. The sun is hot today, right? Welcome, welcome.” The cat walked in without hesitation and immediately lay down on the cool marble floor, finding a comfortable spot next to a display case. The cat then looked back at Algamadi and blinked, appearing grateful for the cool shelter and Algamadi’s kindness.
Algamadi also provided the cat with some water and food off-camera. The video of his compassionate act quickly went viral, amassing over 673,000 views. It appears the cat has become a regular visitor to Algamadi’s store, with additional videos showing the cat returning on multiple occasions. The cat stopped by in late June, July 15, July 21, and August 3, suggesting that Algamadi has gained a new friend and loyal visitor.
Many people on TikTok praised Algamadi for his kindness and for helping the cat during the intense heat. “Bless you and your business for your kindness. Poor thing looked way overheated,” one user commented. Another added, “Thank God for those who have a compassionate heart.” A third noted, “When cats squint their eyes like that, they are essentially giving you kisses and saying thank you. Glad you helped out this kitty.”
