Monty, a dog with hydrocephalus, was given only six months to live. His adoptive family decided to do everything they could to make his remaining time as happy and fulfilling as possible. Hydrocephalus, a condition characterized by excessive water in the brain, can be treated with a shunt, but Monty’s severe condition made him ineligible for the procedure. Despite the odds, Monty’s family has helped him defy expectations and celebrate his one-year anniversary with them.

Hydrocephalus can cause a range of symptoms, including vision problems and difficulty walking. When Monty first arrived at his new home, he was mostly blind and could only walk in small circles. His adoptive family, determined to help him, began working with him multiple times a day, using reiki, crystal therapy, and sound therapy to improve his condition. They also guided him through their house, teaching him how to use the steps.

One of the most significant factors in Monty’s progress has been his bond with another dog in the family, named Roo. Roo’s energetic and active personality contrasts with Monty’s gentle and slow demeanor. The two have formed a strong connection. Monty’s daily interactions with Roo have contributed to his tremendous development, and he now functions almost like a “normal dog.”

Monty’s progress has been nothing short of miraculous. He has learned to navigate the steps in his home, play in the yard with his doggy brother, and has even made strides in potty training. His adoptive family and their veterinarian consider him a miracle, surpassing any initial expectations.

The love and dedication Monty’s family has shown him has proven to be more powerful than any medical intervention. They continue to cherish every day they have with him, celebrating the incredible journey they’ve shared so far.
