Samm, a cat from Oregon, might steal the Guinness World Record for the world’s oldest living cat.
Charly Briggs, the feline’s mum, decided to make a submission to Guinness once she realized Samm was a full two years older than the previous record-holder.
According to KPTV’s report, Briggs is in the process of submitting all of the required evidence to crown Samm.

On average, cats live for roughly 15 years, but a few have greatly surpassed that age.
Creme Puff, from Austin, Texas, still holds the Guinness World Record for being the longest living cat of all time, as officially recognized. She was 38 years and three days old when she died.
Samm, however, is in the running for the oldest currently living cat at 26 years old, a record previously held by Corduroy, who was 27 years old when he died.
Interestingly enough, Corduroy was also from Oregon. Apparently, they’re putting that good catnip in the water there.
Currently, there is no record holder while GWR officially verifies the age of cats vying for the title.
Samm’s Mom Thinks He’s A Real World Record Possibility
Briggs’ friends suggested that she submit Samm as a record holder. When she gave Guinness a ring, they told her that the current oldest living cat officially verified was 24.
“I’m like, ‘What? He’s older than 24.’ I was like just freaking out,” Briggs told KPTV. “Then I was putting it to my friends on social media like, ‘Guys, he could do it. He could win.”
Of course, all of Briggs’ friends — and fans of Samm — want it to be true, and it might very well be! Considering that he was a rescued stray, adopted in Memphis in 2022, we think it would be pretty cool if he won the honor.
People often want kittens, but who knows — a faithful rescue could outlive them! That’s a great lesson for this month, which is Adopt A Senior Pet Month!
