A cat waltzed up to everyone and interrupted picnics at a playground until he found people to take him in.

A few months ago, a friendly tabby cat showed up at a park in Queens. He started living in the area, asking passers-by for attention and something to eat.

Once he discovered that people gathered around at a playground for picnics, he didn’t hesitate to waltz up to them, begging for some treats.

“This affectionate tabby would interrupt picnics just to get a bite of food. He’s pretty special. He’s polydactyl and loves everyone,” Little Wanderers NYC shared.

Eddie, an animal rescuer who cares for community cats in the area, noticed the friendly stray. As he began feeding him, he quickly realized that the cat had no fear and that he didn’t belong on the street.

The tabby had been roaming in the outdoors for some time after being left out to survive on his own. He continued to trust people, walking up to them for affection and nourishment.

Being extremely friendly in a high foot-traffic location could put the cat in harm’s way. It became clear to Eddie that the cat needed a home, and he wanted to make it happen for the deserving boy.

Eddie teamed up with Little Wanderers NYC, and with their support, he was able to bring the cat named Walbert to safety and get him fully vetted.

As soon as Walbert was indoors, he turned into an instant snuggle-bug. He was so content when he was cuddled, blinking his eyes sluggishly in pure bliss.

After filling his belly to the brim, he nestled up to his rescuer as if to thank him for taking him in.

A family learned from the rescue that Walbert was seeking a foster home and happily offered to help. Walbert arrived in his new abode with his sweet temperament, big doe eyes and extra toes on his feet.

He quickly felt at home and made himself very comfortable on their couch. It didn’t take long for the tabby to wriggle his way deep into their hearts.

Every night, Walbert would lounge on the couch next to his people, watching TV with them while enjoying his favorite treats. The family fell head over heels for the sweet boy, and knew that he was where he belonged.

“We adopted Walbert to complete our kitty family. His eyes called to me and those feet, the beans on them,” the family shared.

“At the end of the day, loving on an animal that we saved and feeling them finally be able to relax in safety is an amazing feeling.”

Walbert is living the life of his dreams now that he has found a wonderful home and people that adore him to pieces.

“Now he lives happily ever after, and when he’s not watching Netflix on the couch, he’s basking in the sunshine from his living room windowsill,” the rescue shared.
