A friendly stray cat showed up in a neighborhood, walking from door to door, begging for food and attention. “He’s going up to people for headbutts and scritches. He’s going to people’s doors waiting to be let in,” Little Wanderers NYC shared.

A kind-hearted resident noticed the hungry feline and offered him something to eat. After devouring it with gusto, he followed the resident to her door and sat there as if waiting to be ushered in.

“I gave him some food; he thinks this is his home. He’s been sitting in front of my door,” the resident shared in a video.

The cat was reportedly abandoned and had no place to go. Friendly and trusting, he didn’t belong outside and wasn’t equipped to survive the elements or the harsh realities of the streets.

The resident couldn’t bear to leave the cat to fend for himself. She contacted her local animal rescue, Little Wanderers NYC, hoping to give him a fresh start with a loving family.

Upon receiving the plea, rescue volunteers sprang into action, determined to secure the cat that day. “They came together in a crunch to give him safe passage into his next life, a life beyond his wildest dreams.”

What they discovered was an incredibly affectionate cat, rolling on the floor and greeting them with his belly and gentle purrs.

They lovingly named him Toasted Marshmallow as his fur was a lovely golden brown and white, reminiscent of the treat. “He’s the sweetest, friendliest cat I’ve ever met,” one of the rescuers shared on Instagram.

“He never learned what it takes to make it on the street as a homeless cat. He was waiting in front of peoples’ doors and crying to be let in. He’s also as sweet and soft as his name implies.”

Toasted Marshmallow was underweight, starved, and more than ready to be taken in and pampered.

James, a volunteer, stumbled upon a post from the rescue seeking a foster home for the deserving boy. He jumped at the chance and prepared a comfy space to welcome Toasted Marshmallow.

Shortly after arrival, Marshmallow wolfed down a bowl of food as if trying to make up for all the missed meals. He was pleased with the arrangements and started to learn that there was plenty of food to go around.

It took the cat no time to settle in now that he was back in his element. He was ready to shadow his people and supervise them around the house.

After wandering the streets, hoping someone would open their home to him, Marshmallow’s wish finally came true.

He has found his favorite perching spot on his human and happily offers feline wisdom when they are at the desk. He lounges contentedly, eyes half-open, as if fully aware he’s living the good life away from the streets.

Toasted Marshmallow finds joy in the simplest pleasures – a cozy lap, a full bowl, and the gentle strokes of affection. Thanks to the compassionate rescuers and volunteers, he will always have a full belly and a safe place to call home.
