A cat who once was out in the cold, seeking attention in a courtyard, is now warm and wants to be near people at all times.

Last week, Little Wanderers NYC received an urgent rescue request about a homeless cat found in a courtyard. She was hungry, begging passers-by for help, but no one came to claim her.

She’d been in the area for nearly six days, taking shelter behind boxes and garbage. “This beautiful white kitten was shivering cold and stuck between two buildings, wondering where her next meal would come from,” Little Wanderers NYC shared.

The rescue reached out to their volunteers, hoping to get the cat into a safe home.

“It was just a matter of time before things would start to get bad for her. That night, the stars aligned, and she was rescued.”

An emergency call reached one of the volunteers around 10 PM, and they leaped into action. Within hours, the cat went from starving and braving the cold to having a roof over her head, a warm bed, and an abundance of food.

Starla, the cat, was friendly from the start and craved human companionship. Despite her hunger, she ignored the bowl of food before her and sought affection from her foster mom instead.

“She seems to be a social eater. She wasn’t interested (in the food) until she could check on her foster mama in between bites. Alternating between scarfing down food and purring,” Starla’s rescuer shared.

After taking a mouthful of food, she turned to her foster mom for a quick sniff to ensure she was nearby. “This sweetheart is so happy to be safe and warm.”

The following day, Starla went to the vet’s office, where she was treated for fleas and received the medical attention she needed. She behaved wonderfully towards the veterinary team as if she knew she was in good hands.

“When you see how sweet and grateful she is, it’s almost impossible to believe she was out in the cold a week ago. Starla loves every food she’s been introduced to and wants to be near her people at all times.”

Not one to miss a petting opportunity, Starla follows her people like a shadow. She leans into their touch and melts into their arms whenever she is held.

She is a little social butterfly who thrives on being around her humans.

When her foster mom petted her, she stretched her paws, kneading the air contentedly. Her eyes grew heavier with every stroke before she drifted off to sleep. “Her favorite activity? Getting pets until she falls asleep.”

“Kittens have a hard time surviving on the unforgiving concrete jungle NYC streets. Stray kittens rarely make it without human intervention. This beautiful kitten Starla is so special. We can’t believe we found our pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.”

Starla stole the hearts of a loving family who stumbled upon her story. They opened their home and their hearts to the deserving girl and promised her a lifetime of love and comfort.

In just one week, Starla’s life has completely changed. She’s living large with her forever humans who love and spoil her endlessly.

“She may just be the sweetest kitten. We’re so happy for her, and we will miss her dearly despite the short time she’s been with us. So glad we were able to be the connecting link between getting her indoors and finding her forever home.”
