Good To Know

It’s now about two years ago that Ruby was first diagnosed with advanced kidney disease. Sometimes it still seems like it was just yesterday, and at times it’s still incomprehensible that my little girl is no longer with us. I’m grateful I have eight years of her column to look back on to trigger specific memories, because much as we don’t want to believe it, time does blur what we remember.

Ruby was always fascinated by leaves blowing around outside the window, especially on the deck, where she could see them close up. She wasn’t sure what to make of these “creatures” moving around outside.

  1. I lost my cat, Petie, to advanced kidney disease, too. He was my childhood cat and he passed when I was in my early twenties. I only have a few precious photos of him, but so many memories. What a special video of Ruby playing with her outdoor leaves. I always enjoy watching our cats and wonder what they are thinking.

  2. Dear Ingrid,
It’s been a little over three months now since I lost my darling tortoiseshell Bella. As mentioned before, I find solace looking at your darling cats. This video is so very reminiscent of what Bella would do, when things like leaves interested her outside the window. At the family’s request we have a part Maine coon kitten. My grief though, is just as intense. I would dearly love another tortoiseshell, but realise the time is not right. I think tortoiseshell cats are incredible; Bella taught me that.
