Today’s felines, enjoying their own personal ‘fabulous life of’, adored and waited on by their co-habiting servants humans, owe much gratitude to 19th-century artist Louis Wain.
His vast catalogue of paintings, illustrations, cartoons and postcards featuring fabulous felines helped transform cats’ role in society from mere ‘mousers’ to the pets we love today – although the mousing naughtiness never went away! ‘He invented a cat style, a cat society, a whole cat world.’, said writer HG Wells. And it is this captivating cat world that inspired the forthcoming and much-anticipated movie The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Wain. And, Katzenworld fans, a date for your diary… current reports say the film will air from 5th November on Amazon Prime Video!
British luxury cat collar and lifestyle brand, Cheshire & Wain are huge devotees of Wain and have been celebrating and outfitting cats in his honour since their launch in 2013. This Autumn, they have taken their love of his work one step further with the launch of their new Louis Wain collar collection, which we think is the purrfect attire for watching this cinematic goodness cuddled up to one’s human.
Just like the colour explosions seen in Wain’s work, the Louis Wain collars come in four fun and vibrant colours – Electric Blue, Chartreuse, Purrsimmon or Pastel. As worn by Cheshire & Wain’s muses Percy and Penelope, each collar is made from the finest Italian leather with a matte rubberised surface, soft suede lining for comfort and contrast stitching for added style, with an optional bell. Handcrafted in their East London workshop, Cheshire & Wain’s latest collars feature their signature breakaway safety catch and come beautifully presented in a special edition Louis Wain gift box.
For cats and cat lovers who can’t get enough of Louis Wain’s work, Cheshire & Wain also sparks joy with a cat bowl and artwork all in homage to the famous feline artist. Prices start at £28 upwards at Cheshireandwain.com
